ARMIN CSIZMADIA
My work explores the expressionism of aesthetics,
stories, and atmospheres that inspire me. I specialize in printmaking, often blending digital planning in Photoshop with traditional mediums like charcoal, graphite, and paint. I’m particularly drawn to the unexpected outcomes of printmaking, which align with my expressive style.
I am passionate about the intersection of science and art, particularly the fusion of psychology and neuroscience with creative practice. Recently, I’ve begun creating multisensory pieces that combine visuals with scent, a direction I aim to pursue further.

Initially I was interested in neon lights, installations and expressive works lead me to explore onwards the 1960s. Project Razzmatazz explored recent personal experiences and contemporary aesthetics therefore I combined screen-printing with digital photo editing for reflecting on the contemporary aesthetic. Post minimalist artists: Flavin and Turrell influenced neon colours, while “Self construction” offered conceptualist perspectives for the psychological project “oh your poor ear”. Lastly, emerging from Project Razzmatazz, “Thoughts as clouds and clouds as thoughts” inspired by Warhol’s silver clouds, incorporated post minimalist elements via instillation technique, conceptualist strategies thought metaphors, while abstract expressionist characteristics influenced the consciousness related theme.
Project Razzmatazz reflects on modern aesthetics through digital collaging and screenprinting, while maintaining a traditional artmaking process. Screenprinting connects to the mass production of everyday items, reflecting on the significance of art democratisation I experienced in Barcelona. In Oh Your Poor Ear, artificial colours and materials of silicone combine with ready and hand made elements borrowing a conceptualist, artificial aesthetic, exploring the psychological mechanism for long learnt habits. Finally, Thoughts as Clouds and Clouds as Thoughts’s multisensory nature explores inspiration and consciousness through the metaphor of clouds, representing fluidity. Via distortions, different angles reveal reflections and new shapes, challenging perception.
Originally I wanted to represent art democratisation through installing printed paper bags with objects from streets, however it felt blunt and restrictive in message. Upon seeing “silver clouds” and comparing my thoughts to clouds, I developed the idea of floating paper bags with prints, which soon changed into thermal blankets for less weight. I realised that free floating surfaces distort upon each other and reflect colour, challenging perception while incorporating Barcelona’s innovative, creative aesthetic. The bags freely float in the space, while the viewer listens to music. This encourages interaction while reflecting on the importance of inspiration art democratisation achieves.
